The OneMind Dogs CAMP 2014 got its grand finale on Saturday when the week of training culminated at the first ever OMD CUP. The CUP was open to all, and in addition to camp participants some enthusiastic handlers had arrived to test their skills on the tricky courses laid out by Swedish judge Veronica Bache. Courses turned out to be a tough nut to crack for most competitors, but not for Polish Anna Zukowska.
Anna took part in the OMD CUP with her two dogs, Chinese crested dog Fido and Border Collie Chila. Anna has trained with the OneMind Dogs method and coaches also before the CAMP. Anna and Chila were the only ones to make two clean runs in the CUP – and truly earned the title of OMD CUP Winner 2014. Congratulations to Anna and all the other winners! Of course Anna’s success didn’t end there. She and Fido won both of the two courses in the medium class and became the CUP’s bronze medalists! Will she be able to carry home all her prizes and medals and not get caught in the metal detector? We doubt it ;) All winners were rewarded with OneMind Dogs merchandise, medals and Anna as the CUP winner took home a whole year long OneMind Dogs Premium Membership.
Altogether 31 pairs of handlers and their dogs took part in the OMD CUP 2014. And an exciting competition it was - fast and with just the right amount of challenge. With dogs own and borrowed, the campers got their taste of competing in agility in Finland. Some fine maneuvers as well as very good sportsmanship were witnessed on the course and the happy campers cheered all the participants to do their very best.
For the campers, the OMD handling techniques honed during the week were put to test. The most positive OMD CAMP participant, as voted by other participants, coaches and the crew, Kelly Chaffin comments on the runs: “The courses were challenging but it was a lot of fun to get to take all the things we’ve learned this week and put them to use on the course. That was fast and fun! Compared to the beginning of the week --- I learned a lot about how to identify which technique to use in which situation. One more day - I don’t want it to end!” OMD CAMP participants have one final day left: on Sunday they are training both of the OMD CUP competition courses.
