A team of very excited people is waiting for all OMD campers to arrive in Turku and it's time to introduce them all to you! The regular OMD coach team will be strengthened with some of the best agility coaches from Finland and Canada and a great camp crew.
Janita, the creator of OneMind Dogs, is passionate about dogs, agility, and developing the methodology further. She has an incredible gift of reading dogs’ minds and never loses her temper with a dog. She will do everything to help her students learn and develop; OneMind Dogs is her lifework. Janita wants to share and teach, giving handlers the tools to communicate better – and ultimately improve the wellbeing of the dogs.
Janita just won the Finnish national team qualifications and will travel to Luxembourg for the World Championships with Fu, one of her Border Collies.
Jaakko believes that agility is art created between humans and dogs. He is passionate about this unique cooperation and constantly searches for ways to improve it. Jaakko feels that agility is affected not only by key actions but also by the handler’s mind. The handler unconsciously reflects his thoughts in the agility course – so before being able to change real actions, the handler first has to change his state of mind.
Jaakko and his Border Collie Chi recently won silver at the Finnish Agility Championships. Jaakko and his other Border Collie Zen will represent Finland in the team competition at the World Championships in Luxembourg.
Mikko is the gentleman of agility. He is humble, precise and always keeps things organized. Mikko gets along with everybody, which makes him a true team player; he always supports and encourages each member. Mikko’s way of handling is smooth and technically perfect.
Mikko has competed at the international level for many years and has won the ultimate prize: Agility World Champion.
Mari’s life philosophy is to seize the moment; she loves to enjoy whatever she is doing. As well as agility, Mari is a specialist in the physical conditioning of dogs and she always wants to make sure that the dogs are in the top shape possible. If something is wrong, she will do everything she can to rehabilitate the dog.
Mari has been in the Finnish national team and won several championship medals with different dogs.
Tuulia is a very goal-oriented and competitive handler; and she is at her best in tough situations. Although Tuulia is determined in everything she does, she also thinks life should not be taken too seriously. She says you have to enjoy what you’re doing and put your heart into it, or you are only wasting your precious time. In agility she is fascinated by the concept that you can always be better and keep on developing all the time. Once you have felt at one mind with your dog in the agility course, you want to experience it over and over again.
Tuulia and her Border Collie Pirtu came third at the Finnish national team qualifications and will represent Finland at the World Championships in October.
Elina is an ambitious and passionate agility handler. She enjoys practicing agility and wants to clarify things to herself to have a crystal clear idea of what she wants her dogs to do and why. As a technically very skilled handler she also wants her dogs to know the techniques as well as possible. That way she knows that no matter what she faces at an agility course she can always rely on her dogs. Elina loves the feeling she gets from doing the right things on the agility course. As a coach Elina is exact, firm and demanding. She wants her students to learn the precise and correct techniques. At the same time she's also inspiring!
Elina and one of her Border Collies, Omie, won the Border Collie Classic 2014 in Slovakia. Elina and Omie also represented Finland at the European Open 2014 in Hungary and have been members of the Finnish national team.
Jenni is a true Finnish agility veteran who participated in her first Finnish Agility Championships already in 1996 after having started her competition career only six months earlier. She has competed and coached people in several dog sports but nowadays concentrates on agility. Jenni is fascinated by canine behavior and loves solving problems. She never gets tired of explaining things thoroughly because she wants her students to understand why they should do things they are asked to do.
Jenni has qualified to compete in the national tryouts and Finnish Championships with several dogs during her agility career. She has won several Regional Championships and received both a silver and a bronze medal in Finnish Team Championships.
Kayl arrives to the OMD Camp all the way from Canada to strengthen the Finnish coach pack. She believes that having a well-trained, obedient dog is fundamental to having a successful agility dog. Kayl has been training dogs for more than 20 years. She is a full time professional dog trainer at her family business McCann Professional Dog Trainers. Kayl has a wealth of experience. She has trained more than 10 dogs to compete in agility, obedience & flyball. Most of these dogs have become Regional, National or World Champions in Agility.
Kayl thinks the OMD Camp will be like heaven! She earned earned 5 medals for Team Canada at the 2013 IFCS World Championships! To date, Kayl has earned 30 medals for Canada at World Championships, including 14 Gold, 7 Silver & 9 Bronze.
Minna likes the toned-down style of agility that lets the dog's skills show. She enjoys seeing dogs know what they're doing and giving them the possibility to do that. Minna wants to constantly become better as a handler and a competitor. A thing very close to her heart is doing contact obstacles and starts well and according to the defined criteria. Minna has trained with Janita and the other OMD coaches for almost 10 years. When training and competing Minna tries to follow Janita's advice: Be such a good and fair handler to your dog that every dog would like to be yours!
Minna's older Border Collies are both Finnish Agility Champions and she has participated in the Finnish Championships and national team qualifications with both of them. Her youngest Border Collie Shotti comes from Tuulia Liuhto's kennel.
